Central Gippsland Woody Weed Group

If you talk to communities across the state who are involved in the Victorian Blackberry Taskforce’s community partnership program they will tell you that 'blackberry control is more than science'. That is to say they have tapped into the concept that control programs which are community driven and Government supported achieve the best results.

The Taskforce has been working with fire affected communities in helping them to develop their own woody weed control project in a post-fire environment.

The newly formed Central Gippsland Woody Weed Group Action Group (CGWWAG) is one such group who is ramping up activities for the up-coming spring season.  Ian Ewart, Chair of the group says, 'The post-fire environment provides an ideal opportunity to tackle woody weeds in the second year of growth and where access has been a problem.'

'It’s a community-led project, but we recognise that working with the other agencies has been essential in planning and achieving widespread change,' Ian said.
